Peter Turchin: End Times
Переглядів 9794 місяці тому
The lessons of world history are clear, Turchin argues: when the equilibrium between ruling elites and the majority tips too far in favour of elites, political instability is all but inevitable. As income inequality surges and prosperity flows disproportionately into the hands of the elites, the common people suffer, and society-wide efforts to become an elite grow ever more frenzied. He calls ...

Hans Kundnani & Mehreen Khan: Eurowhiteness
Переглядів 7036 місяців тому
The European Union is often seen as a cosmopolitan rejection of violent nationalism. Yet the idea of Europe has a long, problematic history-in medieval times, it was synonymous with Christianity; in the modern era, it became associated with ‘whiteness’. Hans Kundnani exposes the EU as a vehicle for imperial amnesia. Narratives of European integration emphasise the lessons of war and the Holocau...

She is a phenomenal woman.
"Decolonising the _global_ economy" is quite obviously a contradiction in terms. Hence believing it possible is obviously either a pipe dream or empty political rhetoric aiming to in fact install another kind of global hegemony... and it's pretty obvious what that will be from one glance at this.
What is missing in all these When China Rules is mention of a fundamental genetic difference of IQ of Chinese vs the West. It is an established fact that China and neighboring countries have he highest IQ is the world. In the US, Chinese American students routinely do better in the STEM subjects. Most attributes the difference to hard work, and rarely due to a core difference in IQ. In the past decades, China had to catch up mainly by imitation. But now that China has achieve parity, the army (millions) of very high IQ engineers and scientist are now engage in the most advanced and innovative technological challenges. China is on the verge of one greatest technological achievement in the history of mankind; unlimited energy production. Nuclear fusion which requires trapping gases at temperature exceeding the surface of the sun are within reach of this decade, would revolutionize energy production for million of years. Whether China succeeds this decade or next doesn't matter. It exemplifies the incredible technical advances being made in China, the only country in the world capable of problem solving mega-amp super conductivity opiating at incredible temperatures. . This is just one of many technological triumph being mastered by China. The list is long. Its a no brainer who will rule the world:'

Shouldn't we also focus on the debt-based monetary system? I mean: a company usually goes into debt if they expect growth. And if they don't grow, they are in huge trouble. It is basically the loop of a gun to the head: grow or die. That's why post-growth is so frightening to economists. If we don't replace this paradigm by a less threatening, more egalitarian monetary system, we basically don't have the option to choose post-growth, even if the majority of people would support it. I'm trying to write a book on what my take would be on this new monetary system, and how to implement it.
Right: We must replace our current economic and monetary systems, and re-building that plane while flying it is daunting.
@@karlwheatley1244 If crashing is immanent, it makes sense to do a soft landing as soon as possible, and then transfer to a safer, more durable option like high speed rail. You know that the plane will not remain in the air forever, right?
Sad I missed this event. Didn’t really see it advertised in many places. C’mon guys!
Arey nand kishore tumhara intezar kar rahe the. John abraham is a great actor.
Bring more voices like hers to the table please.
She has a great Shakti in her. We need more women like her to introduce societal change that it is not confined to patriarchal capitalist way of seeing things. We need to draw more inspiration in traditional ways ! Victory to Mother of the Universe !
❤️ Thank you. Dankeschön. Quote: "Come forth into the Light of things - let Nature be your teacher." William Wordsworth ☀️ Zitat: "Tritt hervor ins Licht der Dinge - lass die Natur deine Lehrerin sein." William Wordsworth

I wish the "free university" and the whole crusty standardised apparatus of knowledge had even just a quarter of her wise knowledge.

Had the honour of meeting this amazing woman. She is disarmingly intelligent. It's not like you're standing in the room with an intellectual giant, it is exactly like that. We would all be so much better off if we learned to listen to and elevate individuals like Vandana Shiva. Unfortunately we worship money we don't have in the dream we can afford things that are otherwise free. If a person of her education and intelligence sees wisdom and value in the knowledge of farming communities then the rest of us would be stupid to not pay attention ourselves.
I understand that Nick Shaxson now lives in Berlin. It's not safe for him to live in Britain.
3:05 greeting from indonesia😊
The main reason why we don’t have real leaders like this coming out and speaking making real valid points and identifying real environmental problems and issues here in the usa is because this country is ran by cooperations I mean seriously if y’all would hear the ridiculous backwards non sense they try to shove down our throats in America it is a shame
the only thing I will disagree with Ma'am is that religions were pushed on us and yes many of us were forced to convert.. that is a reality and we should never be afraid to admit it.. but keeping that in mind we do choose our friends and enemies..
While those who speak about forced religions and conversions, the Indian government specifically, not only deny but punish all those who seek admission of the atrocities of the dominant castes on their working caste fellow-Indians over centuries that continue even today.
Too simplistic view to blame colonialism will not produce any impact. At the time of feudal system in ancient era, only few had the luxury. Most of the people were slaves or workers or soldiers for the land lords.
What a great pity the sound is so dreadful. No morsel of A C Grayling should ever be wasted.
Had Columbus not found America what then those wild European nations would have done to India might be more devastating !
Wonderful speach!💐🌈🙏

Good lecture, I learned how I can reverse engineer Bharat History from Economics & Hindu civics in a fun way.
Those who talk about "Bharat" the loudest these days are indulging in double speak, as fascists always do. They were and continue to work for the global corporate elite nexus

Powerful people always blame colonialism for disempowering and defeating them. Everyone was defeated and colonised so brutally. Now they're all a shaken damaged mess trying desperately to recover while colonial boots crush them into street begging losers.
What is it about the White man that everywhere he goes he wrecks order and decency? Why is acquisition and profit at the center of his existence? His philosophy of greed has reduced mankind to his own worst enemy. We are no longer afraid of being devoured by wild animals as man has become a beast eating other men. Is fairness really an alien concept? The white man who goes around the world shouting, "freedom! freedom!! freedom!!!" is the same man working tirelessly to make you unfree. He schemes to control your thoughts, your actions and your food supplies. When will the world wake up to tell him, ENOUGH! To this end, we welcome Dr. Vandana Shiva.
She is so amazing - It amazes me how many people are taught real history of these subjects - Thank you . She is a real hero of humanity
@Hagsy , history is important in our learning, but how to grow food should be our first love again!

she's got it! vandana shiva is my heroine - she is wise and smart and she's brave - if we want to make a change, she is the one who knows how! i love her.
We aren’t even allowed to grow our own food or raise livestock for ourselves without extraordinary expense and government/HAO permission. If cannot sustain yourself, then you are owned by other people or corporations. As you mentioned the people allow it and vote for the situation we’re in. I don’t agree with some of the romanticizing and Idealizing of the history of any indigenous people, cultures and lands. People all over the world from time and memorial have been killing each other for power, riches and land. So let’s not pretend that isn’t a real thing and that started with Europeans or Christianity. Which by the way is not a tenet of the faith. Those might have been done in the name of Christianity, but make no mistake it was for the already rich and powerful monarchy, not Jesus. That said, understanding the past and current impact of colonialism is an absolute essential element of undoing the current inequities and difficulties we have now and are allowing other to build for us in the future.
Colonialism is still active in India _ we are a large market and greed knows no bound, we are destroying our natural resources. Smsll land mass. Over producing
What a load of waffle. Her discussion is all over the place without a solid direction.
Vandana! I've been a fan of yours since 2003 when I purchased, inter alia, a Navdanya T-Shirt from Dilli Haat. Wearing it I got engaged and married in Dehradun in 2004 and my life seems to have followed you unconsciously. You made complete sense then and you still do. The world seems to be aligning with our long held views. Finally!!
